Al-Hajj Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, inaugurated the construction of the Arghandi Transport Terminal in Paghman District, Kabul Province.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Acting Minister of Transport and Aviation, Mullah Hamidullah Akhundzada, along with representatives from the private sector and local residents.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy PM described the project as a crucial step in strengthening the country’s transport infrastructure. He emphasized that the development and modernization of transport facilities are essential for economic growth, national progress, and enhanced regional connectivity.
According to the Deputy PM, decades of war and corruption have left the transport sector in a state of neglect. He pointed out that existing infrastructure has deteriorated due to substandard construction, public lands have been seized illegally, and vital road corridors have been significantly narrowed.
Highlighting the importance of modern transport infrastructure, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund underscored the Islamic Emirate’s commitment to investing in transportation and communication networks, reclaiming unlawfully occupied public lands, and restoring original road right-of-ways as key national priorities.
As part of this initiative, he announced the commencement of construction on the Arghandi Transport Terminal, which will include the development of 42 essential facilities.
Deputy PM Baradar Akhund reaffirmed the Islamic Emirate’s dedication to the expansion of transport infrastructure, stating that, in accordance with contemporary needs and available resources, the government remains firmly committed to achieving its broader strategic objectives.
In his closing remarks, the Deputy PM congratulated the nation on the launch of this significant project and urged the contracting company to ensure high-quality completion within the designated timeframe.
The Arghandi Transport Terminal will be built on approximately 900 jeribs of land, with a total budget of 1.285 billion Afghanis. The project, to be executed by the private sector, is expected to be completed within two years.
Once operational, the terminal will enhance transportation services, improve the efficiency of logistics and transit operations, lower transportation costs, reduce traffic congestion, and create substantial employment opportunities for Afghan citizens.
