Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Meets with Azizi Group CEO Mirwais Azizi

The Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), Al-Hajj Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, met in his office with Mr. Mirwais Azizi, Chief Executive Officer of the Azizi Group of Companies, accompanied by his technical team.

The Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs welcomed the commencement of five major electricity generation projects with a combined capacity of 845 megawatts, which constitute part of Azizi Energy Investment Company’s 10,000-megawatt project. He described these initiatives as significant in generating employment opportunities and promoting the country’s economic growth.

Mr. Mirwais Azizi expressed his appreciation to the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and to the officials of the relevant institutions for their comprehensive cooperation in all areas. He stated that they recognize the Islamic Emirate’s firm commitment to national development and that, as a result of the sincere efforts of the responsible authorities, agreements were signed today to initiate five major electricity generation projects.

Mr. Azizi further stated that by the end of 2026, an additional 15 to 20 electricity generation projects will be launched, bringing the total generation capacity to 5,000 megawatts.

Mr. Azizi stated that, following the arrival of the gas pipeline to Herat Province and in coordination with the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, work will commence on the establishment of major gas networks and the construction of a large gas-fired power plant with a capacity of 3,000 megawatts. He also requested joint cooperation with the relevant institutions in the exploration and extraction of natural gas and coal, as well as in electricity generation from these resources.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and the officials of the relevant institutions assured their full cooperation and coordinated efforts in the aforementioned areas.
