A senior delegation, led by Alhaj Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, convened this afternoon with Jamshid Khodjaev, Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, during an official visit to Uzbekistan.
During the meeting, both parties deliberated on the expansion of trade and transit relations, alongside investment prospects for Uzbek investors in Afghanistan.
The Uzbek delegation conveyed Tashkent’s readiness to establish a joint trade zone at the border between the two nations to facilitate enhanced economic relations with Kabul.
This proposed trade zone would encompass processing factories for pine nuts and cotton, packaging and logistics centers, as well as manufacturing units for select food products.
Furthermore, Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister articulated the willingness of Uzbek investors to engage in cooperation with the Islamic Emirate in the exploration and extraction of oil and gas resources within Afghanistan. Additionally, he underscored interest in industrial investments, particularly in the development of cement production facilities in Samangan province.
He also highlighted substantial advancements in the exploration of the Toti Maidan gas field, with extraction operations anticipated to commence in the near future.
The Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs of Afghanistan expressed appreciation for Uzbekistan’s initiatives and reaffirmed the Islamic Emirate’s commitment to full cooperation in these domains.
