Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs Meets UN Special Representative and Delegation

H.E Mawlawi Abdul Kabir , Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs met with Ms. Roza Otunbayeva , the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General and her accompanying delegation today at Sapedar Palace.
Ms. Roza Otunbayeva expressed her appreciation for the meetings between the Islamic Emirate leaders and the public and said that during her recent trip abroad, she discussed securing aid for Afghanistan with donor countries and organizations. She further stated that UNAMA has received part of the assistance needed for the upcoming winter.
Ms. Otunbayeva said that the closure of Afghanistan's borders with neighbouring countries adversely affects Afghan farmers’ ability to export their agricultural products. She called on the Islamic Emirate to communicate with the relevant countries while UNAMA also works to address these issues.
Ms. Otunbayeva highlighted the recent trade exhibitions in Kabul as important for promoting Afghan products. She also announced that UNAMA will soon launch a loan program to support the growth of small businesses in Afghanistan.
Ms. Roza Otunbayeva ,the UN Special Representative for Afghanistan expressed a commitment to collaborate with the Islamic Emirate on drug eradication, alternative crops, and addiction treatment. He also praised the establishment of a commission to tackle drug and alcohol issues as a positive step.
H.E Mawlawi Abdul Kabir,Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs extended a warm welcome to the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Afghanistan, the newly appointed deputy and their delegation. He emphasized that the Islamic Emirate values UNAMA's mission in Afghanistan.
The Deputy Prime Minister stated that the operational framework for the High Commission for Combating Narcotics is being developed and will be finalized soon.
He stated that the Islamic Emirate operates in accordance with Islamic principles and is willing to discuss any concerns that may arise. He also emphasized that UNAMA should handle certain matters with a sense of responsibility.
Deputy Prime Minister added that in the coming days, the High Commission for Combating Drugs and Alcohol, together with UNAMA, will convene a joint meeting with foreign embassies in Kabul to address several key issues.
