Deputy PM for Economic Affairs Attends the Inauguration Ceremony of Shah Wa Arus Dam

The Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Haji Mullah Abdul Ghani Beradar Akhund, participated in the inauguration ceremony of the Shah Wa Arus Dam in Shakardara District, Kabul.

The event was also attended by the Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs, the Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs, several cabinet members, representatives from the private sector, and local residents.

During his remarks, Haji Mullah Abdul Ghani Beradar underscored the importance of water resources, emphasizing that water has become a pivotal economic factor in global politics and relations. In some nations, he noted, its value exceeds that of oil and precious minerals. However, he highlighted that due to imposed wars and various domestic and external challenges, Afghanistan has not invested adequately in the management of this vital resource. As a result, seasonal rains and climate change have frequently led to devastating floods, causing significant loss of life and property for many Afghans.

Deputy Prime Minister Haji Mullah Abdul Ghani Beradar Akhund stressed that the Islamic Emirate acknowledges the necessity of water management and has prioritized addressing this critical economic issue. In line with this commitment, the completion of the Shah Wa Arus Dam in Shakardara District marks a significant step forward. The project has now been inaugurated to provide clean drinking water and irrigation resources to meet agricultural demands.

He further elaborated that the dam’s completion will facilitate the irrigation of farmland, support electricity generation, and help both individual livelihoods and the national economy.

Concluding his address, he congratulated the Afghan people on the realization of this important national project and called on all citizens to collaborate with the Islamic Emirate in safeguarding and maintaining this and similar initiatives.

Notably, the Shah Wa Arus Dam stands 78 meters tall, has a storage capacity of 9.4 million cubic meters of water, and will irrigate approximately 3,500 hectares of land. Additionally, the dam will generate 1.2 megawatts of electricity.
