Chief of Staff Meets Ambassador of Kazakhstan

Dr. Mullah Abdul Wasi, Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister’s Office of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, met with Mr. Gaziz Akbassov, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Afghanistan.

At the outset of the meeting, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan highlighted the longstanding and positive relations between the two countries, emphasizing that strengthening ties with Afghanistan remains a key priority for Kazakhstan.

He noted that the current trade volume between Afghanistan and Kazakhstan stands at approximately $500 million annually, and that his country aims to increase this figure to around $3 billion through the expansion of trade and investment.

The Ambassador conveyed Kazakhstan’s readiness to invest in Afghanistan’s mining sector, noting that positive discussions have already taken place with the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs.

The Ambassador further expressed Kazakhstan’s interest in the Torghundi–Herat–Kandahar–Spin Boldak railway project, stating that his country stands ready to invest $500 million and emphasized the importance of progress on this project.

He also stated that, in its capacity as an economic partner, his government has approved the export of oil and medicines to Afghanistan, emphasizing that this initiative will contribute to the expansion of trade between the two countries.

Subsequently, Dr. Mullah Abdul Wasi, Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister’s Office, welcomed the Ambassador and appreciated his efforts in strengthening and expanding relations between the two countries.

Dr. Abdul Wasi stated that the improvement of security in Afghanistan has created a favorable environment for economic activities and investment, and that the Islamic Emirate views this as an important priority for achieving Afghanistan’s self-reliance.

In conclusion, the Chief of Staff assured that all the issues discussed will be followed up to achieve the desired outcomes.
