The Economic Commission conducted its regular meeting at the Marble Palace under the chairmanship of Al-Hajj Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs of the IEA.
During the meeting, the Ministry of Finance presented its report on new revenue-generating opportunities, which was approved. According to the report, the Ministry has identified new opportunities for increasing revenues across various sectors. Following the approval and endorsement of the respective proposals, these opportunities are expected, in the long term, to generate approximately 60 billion Afghanis in additional revenue for the budget of the Islamic Emirate.
At this regular session, 12 draft domestic standards and 11 testing procedures submitted by the National Standards and Quality Authority were also approved. These drafts pertain to construction materials; electrical and medical equipment and tools; textiles; plastics; and dairy products, while the testing procedures relate to food and agricultural products.
The Ministry of Energy and Water also presented a report regarding the water pipeline project for transferring water from Panjshir to Kabul, which was approved by the Economic Commission. According to the report, the Ministry of Finance will allocate a budget to the Ministry of Energy and Water for the survey and design of the project.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Finance was instructed to transfer the allocated budget to the Emirati Water Supply Company for the purpose of supplying water from the Shah wa Arous Dam to the northern parts of Kabul city and to initiate the survey and design work. The Emirati Water Supply Company was also directed to submit its implementation plan to the Ministry of Finance for the completion of the remaining works of the (MDP) water supply project, and the Ministry of Finance was instructed to allocate the required budget in accordance with the implementation plan. The General Directorate of Emirati Companies was likewise instructed to allocate a budget to the Emirati Water Supply Company for the survey and design of water supply projects in Kabul city.
At the conclusion of the meeting, reports on several follow-up topics were presented, and the relevant institutions were issued the necessary directives.
The above decisions were forwarded to the Office of His Highness, the Amir al-Mu’minin, Sheikh Sahib (may Allah Almighty protect him), for final approval.
