The Stone Palace

The Stone Palace

The Stone Palace is located 25 meters from the Gulkhana Palace, in the heart of the Arg , next to its northeastern tower. Originally, this area was used for the royal horse stables. When the stables were relocated to the Murad Khani area, the space was converted into rooms for the Amir's advisors and secretaries. Later, the rooms were also used to house military personnel and, at one point, served as the royal kitchen. During the reign of King Mohammad Zahir Shah, the building was used as a weapons storage facility. Additional rooms were later constructed to accommodate workers and servants.

Throughout its history, the purpose of this space has evolved to meet the demands of each era. During the initial phase of the transitional government, container offices were established here, which included offices for the press, protocol and programs, the spokesperson, and several advisors.

The building was later renovated and expanded in 2008, covering an area of 1,855 square meters.
