The Arg Mosque was constructed concurrently with the establishment of the Arg (Presidential Palace). Timber used in the mosque's construction was sourced from Paktia Province. The mosque has a capacity to accommodate up to 250 worshippers simultaneously. Since the reign of Amir Abdul Rahman Khan, Afghan leaders and numerous Arg personnel have consistently performed the five daily prayers in congregation within this mosque.
