The Salam Khana Palace occupies a position in the northeastern quadrant of the current Arg citadel, constructed in the classical architectural idiom. This single-level structure spans 120 meters in length, 40 meters in width, and rises to a height of 20 meters. Conceived as an expansive hall featuring a broad veranda, it possesses the capacity to accommodate up to 1,000 individuals concurrently. Historically, the palace functioned as a venue for festivities and ceremonial events; on select occasions, attendees assembled within its walls to pay homage to the monarch. For this reason, it bears the appellation "Salam Khana," meaning "Greeting Palace." Government dignitaries and civilians alike frequented this palace to convey their respects and extend holiday felicitations to the sovereign.
In the year 1300 (solar calendar), the initial film called SAMETH imported into Kabul was exhibited within the Salam Khana Palace. Furthermore, in 1309 (1930), Afghanistan’s inaugural national assembly (parliament) was formally inaugurated within these premises, which also served as its headquarter.
