The Towers of the Arg

The Towers of the Arg

The fortress of the Arg contains four towers, constructed under the reign of Amir Abdul Rahman Khan. These towers were originally built to augment both the aesthetic appeal and defensive capability of the Arg. To safeguard defenders, the towers were outfitted with slanted and curved arrow slits, designed in accordance with the military knowledge of that period. All towers of the Arg have been meticulously restored to their original form, with iron roofs. Under the reign of King Mohammad Zahir Shah, the towers underwent slight modernization; however, they were subsequently damaged and collapsed amid the civil wars. Restoration efforts were undertaken during the administration of President Hamid Karzai.
